Become an Advocate

Four Steps To Become An Advocate For Children

1. Submit your application
2. Meet with us
3. Complete your training
4. Take a child's case

Step One: Application

If you believe this is the right volunteer opportunity for you, complete the volunteer application.

Step Two: Screening

Once your completed application is received, as part of the screening process a 30-45-minute interview will be scheduled. Because we work with children, we conduct a thorough background check on all of our volunteers initially as well as every four years. A notarized form will need to be completed by all applicants to complete background checks.

Step Three: Training

Participate in a 30-32 hour pre-service training class. We also require at least one courtroom observation prior to the end of pre-service training. Training is an extension of our screening process. Potential volunteers will be evaluated on their objectivity, competence, commitment, communication skills, and understanding of CASA responsibilities.

Step Four: Induction

After successful completion of steps 1-3, you will be sworn-in by our local judge and will be ready to accept your first case. Our trained staff will be on-hand to assist you every step of the way.
